This communication serves to inform you that all offers currently on a 6 or 7 day leadtime will be moved down to a 5 day leadtime on 2 March 2021. Offers below 5 days will remain unchanged.
Why is this happening?During May of 2020, Takealot Marketplace temporarily extended the maximum leadtime days available upward from 5 to 7. This temporary extension was put into place to mitigate delivery delays experienced due to nationwide courier capacity constraints experienced at the start of the pandemic. Now that courier services have adjusted to the increased demand and operations have stabilised throughout our supply chain, we can confidently revert back to our previous leadtime model. This is supported by monitoring both courier and seller on-time delivery performance.Remember, sales conversion is much higher on products with lower leadtimes - get ready for more sales!
When will this happen?Throughout the course of Monday 1 March, our system will start to update relevant offers across the seller base. This will take several hours and we expect the changes to reflect on 2 March across the offers that require an update. During this time you may see these changes taking place and find a mixture of customer order due dates, depending on when the customer order is placed and when the change takes effect.Customer orders placed prior to the removal of the 6 and 7 day leadtime option will not be affected and will retain their original due dates for delivery.
What should you do?Step 1 - Inform your teams and adjust as required
Your operational teams should be ready to process more leadtime orders more frequently. Consider creating smaller shipments on a daily basis and booking these as soon as possible. We recommend the following best practices:Create shipments at least every 24 hours for open leadtime ordersCreate/Allocate bookings and hand over to your courier 2-3 days before your due date.Ensure to ship to the correct DC as leadtime orders cannot be transferred.Step 2 - Inform your logistics partner and/or couriers
Whether you make use of a Takealot Preferred Courier or other services, it remains your responsibility to manage the service levels of your logistics partner. Use this time to reach out and agree on any changes that may impact their timelines and your delivery/collection arrangements with them.Step 3 - Move some of your products proactively
A great way to prepare is to move some of your products to a lower leadtime in advance. This will allow your teams to start processing smaller batches of orders on a shorter leadtime and in doing so, prepare for the adjustment across more offers.
